The Certificate in Medieval Studies is the only program of its kind in the greater Washington, D.C. area. It is designed to offer students diverse experiences in various areas of medieval civilization, providing both broad perspectives and tools for specialized research. It furnishes graduate-level training without the requirement for comprehensive exams or a thesis, and offers access to the resources of a premiere research university and of its numerous partner institutions, such as lectures, colloquia, archives, museum collections, and libraries.
The program of 15 credit hours is based on an interdisciplinary curriculum that can satisfy the needs and interests of students in a variety of scholarly fields. The Certifcate provides them with concentrated and carefully supervised opportunities for graduate-level study that may serve either as an entry point for a later degree program or as an opportunity to deepen professional or personal interests.
The Certificate may be pursued either part-time or full-time, either as a candidate for a graduate degree at Catholic University (in which case up to two courses can be double-counted from a student's degree coursework) or as a non-degree Certificate student.
